Choosing a Conservatory Warm Roof - Important questions to ask

Adding a warm roof to your conservatory can be a sound investment. Not only does an innovative, light-weight roofing system such as SupaLite have sound-proofing and impressive thermal capacities, but above all it can make your conservatory into a year-round living space.

At Falcon Windows Ipswich, we are experienced installers of SupaLite conservatory warm roof technologies and offer our customers carefully selected quality systems based on over 35 years' experience in the home improvements business.

We are able to appraise whether an exisiting conservatory is suitable or strong enough to have a warm roof retro-fitted and to advise on how warm roof solutions can be accommodated into conservatory or orangery new builds to create the feeling of an extension without the planning fuss and lengthy build timescales of a permanent structure.

Get it right

There are many methods of re-roofing existing conservatories on the market, but some are not fit for purpose. Wrapping a new roof over or under an existing roofing system can easily overstress the existing roof and windows.

Highly engineered warm roof solutions such as SupaLite are different. Their standard or bespoke frames which include superior aluminum rafters and the fully insulated and well-ventilated solid roof system can be retro-fitted to replace most polycarbonate conservatory roofs. A proper, professional assessment does however still need to take place to ensure that the system can be correctly constructed in keeping with system guidelines.

Looking for a new warm roof for your conservatory?

If an installer offers a tiled conservatory roof by plastering the inside and tiling the outside of your existing roof, be prepared - ask the following questions:

  • Can I see a printed copy of the engineering test data? It should include proof of the creator’s qualifications to carry out the work.
  • Do you supply a complete new roof? It should comply with building regulations.
  • What will be the U-value of my new roof?
  • Do I get a certificate of Building Regulations compliance? This is important for your home Energy Performance Certificate if you come to selling your property.
  • What about the ventilation? Ventilation air gaps and thermal separation of materials should prevent condensation showing on the interior plastered ceiling or collecting in the roof cavities.
  • How will the roof be finished? Is there a choice of tiles or slate effect, colours and what about soffits and fascia? These will help the re-roofed conservatory look more like a permanent extension.
  • How burglar proof is the system? Can the roofing tiles be easily removed?
  • What weight will the roof withstand? We may get little snow these days in East Anglia, but a warm roof needs not to buckle under extreme conditions such as heavy loading during snowfall.

Systems & installers you can trust

At Falcon, we install both SupaLite and Guardian warm roof systems and both have been engineered and tested to be robust enough to withstand British weather.

Warm roof systems are, by design, no heavier than a typical glass roof, however the challenge arises when you consider that snow sitting on a wonderfully insulated warm roof would not melt as quickly as on a glass or polycarbonate equivalent.

Our SupaLite warm roof and Guardian warm roof systems are engineered for quality – to withstand periods of extreme conditions- properly ventilated and fully tested and approved to all thermal and structural standards. Quick to install, it is possible to transform your conservatory into a year-round room like a playroom, dining room or garden lounge in just days.

On the outside, a wide choice of colours can ensure that your very durable, impact and heat resistant tile or slate warm roof is in keeping with the rest of your property or surroundings. Roof windows can also be accommodated, and inside and out, there are range of lighting solutions to consider.

Stylish options from SupaLite conservatory warm roofs

One of the reasons why Falcon Windows Ipswich are pleased to be installers of SupaLite warm roof systems is that they have a unique set of fascia and soffit options, including exterior downlighters. Add to this that the solution is fully approved with BBA, BRE and CORGI fenestration certifications  and that the roofing components come with worthwhile guarantees, it is an all-round impressive offer.
